PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a nanofiber, which efficiently produces a sufficiently miniaturized nanofiber from a cellulosic fiber raw material, and to provide a sufficiently miniaturized nanofiber produced by the method. SOLUTION: The method includes (a) a disintegration process of disintegrating a cellulosic fiber raw material by a wet method, (b) a preliminary fibrillation process of preliminarily fibrillating the disintegrated fiber raw material into a coarse fiber, and (c) an ultrasonic treatment process of applying ultrasonic waves to the preliminarily fibrillated fiber raw material to provide a fine fiber. The fiber raw material is treated with an enzyme at any point of time before the end of (c) the ultrasonic treatment process. The method is carried out while treating the fiber raw material with an enzyme in at least one process of the disintegration process (a), the preliminary fibrillation process (b), and the ultrasonic wave treatment (c). At least one kind of a cellulase-based enzyme, a xylanase-based enzyme and a hemicellulase-based enzyme is used as the enzyme. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
