The cooling system has a longitudinal freight hold (2) for containing cargo and comprising two end regions (3, 4) spaced apart from each other across length of the freight hold. An air supply (16) is provided in the end region (3), where cooling air is supplied through the air supply from a cooling unit (14) to the freight hold. The freight hold has an air outlet (18) through which air is discharged from the freight hold. The air outlet is provided in the end region (4), and a discharge system is provided separate from the freight hold and connects the air outlet with the cooling unit.
