<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fingerprint authentication apparatus for detecting the approach of people to the apparatus, without increasing the size of the apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The fingerprint authentication apparatus comprises a fingerprint reading part having a first light source for applying light to the nail of a finger, a lens for collecting the light passing through the finger, and an imaging element for receiving the light collected by the lens; and a fingerprint authentication part for performing fingerprint authentication using an image received by the image pickup element. The fingerprint reading part comprises a human sensing part which has a second light source for applying near-infrared light to an operator and a mirror for reflecting the light reflected by the operator toward the lens, and which senses people based on the amount of near-infrared light received by the imaging element. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
