<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control device which acquires a useful parameter for precisely realizing a desired combustion state while excellently maintaining emission and a fuel consumption rate, that is, a parameter of further precisely indicating a combustion characteristic in an object engine. <P>SOLUTION: The control device (an engine control ECU) of an engine (an internal combustion engine) comprises a program (a step S25) for acquiring a combustion rate (an actual combustion rate R1) corresponding to the ratio of an ideal generating calorific value (a target generating calorific value Q2) expected from a supply quantity of fuel and an actual generating calorific value Q1 actually generated by its fuel.
