<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of optimally correcting the transfer bias of a transfer means depending on the size of transfer material to be used without reducing the productivity of a machine, and methods of setting a transfer current and forming an image. <P>SOLUTION: The electric current value of a secondary transferer 22 is corrected based on a result of detection by an electric characteristic detection means 65 and a predetermined threshold. Then, a control part corrects the correction amount at this time based on a result of detection by a sheet width detection means 67. Thus, the control part corrects the electric current value by the correction amount corresponding to sheet size. Since the correction of the electric current value associated with the change of temperature and humidity is performed based on a result of detection by a temperature and humidity detection sensor 66, the productivity of the machine is not reduced.
