<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple automatic centering method which does not use a complicated equipment, and also to provide a device therefor. <P>SOLUTION: In the automatic centering device for a workpiece (2) having a cylindrical circumferential surface disposed on the rotating surface (1) having a rotational center (O), the rotating surface (1) rotates around the center (O), and a contact support device (3) reciprocates in the direction of passing the center (O) of the rotating surface (1). The contact support device (3) is provided with at least two separated fingers (6, 7). The workpiece (2) is contactingly supported alternately by the fingers (6, 7) when the fingers (6, 7) advance to push the workpiece (2) toward the rotational center (O) of the rotating surface (1) and over the rotating center (O). Thereby, the fingers (6, 7) come in contact with the outer peripheral surface of the workpiece (2).
