A PVR system for recording and playing content, the system including a plurality of operationally connected modules including a recording module to record the content, a content storage arrangement to store the recorded content therein, a checkpoint module to receive and store a plurality of checkpoints identified by at least one of the modules during recording of the content, the checkpoints being indexed to the content, the checkpoints being associated with at least one period of disruption during playback of the content, the disruption being a reduction in quality of a video output or loss of video output, and a player to play the content from the content storage arrangement while avoiding playing of at least part of the at least one period of disruption based on at least one of the checkpoints. Related apparatus and methods are also described.
