The system has conducting and sub-masters (M1, M2) connected with central and sub-bus segments (B1, B2) of a bus. Transceivers (T2a, T2b) monitor a data path continuously or in intervals in directions (R1, R2) whether the path is operative or interrupted. The transceivers block a dataflow in the direction (R2) from the segment (B2) to the segment (B1) by activating a blocking unit e.g. electric switch, when the path is interrupted. The transceivers deactivate the unit after end of the interruption and after expiration of idle time such that the flow is released after expiration of the time. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a two-master/multi-master bus system.
