The present invention relates to a medicament intended for the treatment or prevention of diabetes mellitus, ventricular hypertrophy in patients suffering from diabetes mellitus to slow progression of renal diabetic diseases or to reduce proteinuria in patients suffering from diabetes mellitus. The medicament contains a combination of AT1-antagonist valsartan or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and a calcium channel blocker or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
