A chromium-based catalyst system comprising a transition metal or transition metal precursor, a cocatalyst, and a ligand of P-C-C-P frame structure is provided, and a method for preparing 1-hexene at high activity and high selectivity while maintaining reaction activity stably by using the chromium-based catalyst system is provided. An ethylene trimerization catalyst system comprises a transition metal or transition metal precursor, a cocatalyst, and a ligand of P-C-C-P frame structure represented by the formula 1, where R^1, R^2, R^3 and R^4 are independently a hydrocarbyl, a substituted hydrocarbyl, a hetero-hydrocarbyl, or a substituted hetero-hydrocarbyl, one or more of the R^1, R^2, R^3 and R^4 have substituents on at least one atom adjacent atoms bonded to P, and R^5 and R^6 are selected from the group consisting of a hydrocarbyl or a substituted hydrocarbyl, a hetero-hydrocarbyl, and a substituted hetero-hydrocarbyl except hydrogen. The ethylene trimerization catalyst system comprises multiple ligands of P-C-C-P frame structure in which two or more ligands of P-C-C-P frame structure are bonded. A method for preparing 1-hexene comprises trimerizing ethylene using the ethylene trimerization catalyst system. Further, the transition metal or the transition metal precursor is chrome or chrome precusor, and the cocatalyst is methylaluminoxane or ethylaluminoxane. |
