A head light for a vehicle is provided to maintain visibility of a far-away position by suppressing a glaring effect due to vehicles traveling in an opposite direction. A reflector(3) reflects the light from a light source(2). A projection lens(4) projects the reflected light in front of a vehicle. A shade(5) cuts off a portion of the reflected light from the reflector to the projection lens and passes the rest of reflected light to the projection lens, such that a light emitting pattern with a cutoff line is formed. An edge is installed on the shade and forms the cutoff line of the light emitting pattern. The edge includes first and second edges. The first edge is arranged on or near a focal point of the projection lens. The second edge is closer to the projection lens than the first edge. A shielding portion for decreasing an intensity of a predetermined portion of the light emitting pattern is formed on the second edge. |
