A letter plate comprising a body 10 having an opening for the passage of mail; a pivoted closure flap 12 attached thereto; spring means 54 biasing the flap to its closed position; and damping means 50 for damping movement of the flap at least from its open to its closed position. The damper may be a torsional damper 50 which preferably includes a viscous material. The damper preferably has an axis aligned with the pivot axis of the flap. The flap is preferably pivoted by pivot pins 36 at each end of the flap, which have a first portion on the body and a second on the flap. The damper may be carried by the flap, and preferably has a moveable part rotationally fast with the flap and a second part rotationally fast with a pivot pin. The spring for biasing the flap may be a torsion coil spring disposed around one or both of the pivot pins. |
