A method for managing a channel map and a broadcasting receiver thereof are provided to delete or hold existing channel numbers in changing the broadcasting channel map by using an auto-scanning function, transfer information set to a corresponding channel to a newly searched channel number, and record the information, thereby using the broadcasting channel map without setting corresponding information repeatedly. A method for managing a channel map comprises the following steps of: searching for receivable channel numbers in plural broadcasting channels; determining whether there is an existing channel map in a memory unit, configuring and storing a new channel map by using the searched channel numbers in a different memory unit; reading the existing channel map and the new channel map from each memory unit to display the channel maps on a screen together, and receiving a user selection command about whether to update the channel maps through a comparison screen(S212); and transferring a specific channel number stored in the existing channel map to the new channel map according to the selection of a user to configure an update channel and update corresponding channels.
