PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for reading an image in which an unnecessary (signal) component, except an image component, caused by at least one of an image forming intermediate product such as a residual silver or the like and impurities retaining in an original image recorded on an image recording medium such as a silver salt photographic photosensitive material or the like such as a film, a printing sheet or the like can be suitably detected. SOLUTION: The apparatus for reading the image comprises an image reading means for photoelectrically reading the original image containing a visible image and a non-visible image by visible light and non-visible light, and a detecting means for generating correlative pixel distribution information of the visible light signal and the non-visible light signal read by the image reading means and detecting the noise component of the original image by using the pixel distribution information. |
