Transmitting parameters applicable to several neighbouring cells to a mobile station

A wireless communication system in which neighbouring cell information is transmitted by the network to a mobile station, wherein the neighbouring cell information includes sets of parameters, each set of parameters being applicable to several neighbouring cells. The neighbouring cell information may also include applicability information which specifies the rules the mobile station is to apply to determine which parameter set is applicable for a particular neighbouring cell. The applicability information may be specified in terms of a cell class associated with the neighbouring cell and/or the source cell, and a mobile station class associated with the mobile station. The mobile station class may be assigned to the mobile station upon initial transition from detach to active.
