A method and an apparatus for providing acoustic signal having extended bandwidth are provided to recover a missing frequency component by using upper and lower expansion signals. A method for providing acoustic signal having extended bandwidth includes the steps of: providing an upper expansion signal for expanding a received sound signal in an upper frequency at blocks(104,105). The upper expansion signal providing step includes the step of acquiring a shift signal by shifting the received sound signal larger or smaller than a predetermined shift frequency as much as a predetermined shift frequency. The step of high-pass-filtering the received sound signal is performed before the shift step. The filtered shift signal is acquired by high-pass-filtering the shifted signal after the shift step.
