The object is to provide a specific process for production of an aromatic carbonate from a dialkyl carbonate containing specific amounts of an alcohol and an aromatic carbonate and an aromatic monohydroxy compound using a continuous multi-stage distillation column, wherein the aromatic carbonate can be produced stably for a long period in an industrial scale of 1 ton or more per hour with high selectivity and high yield. Although various process for production of an aromatic carbonate by a reaction distillation method have been proposed, these are all relate to the production at a laboratory level (i.e., a small scale and a short production period). There is no disclosure about a process or apparatus for the industrial-scale mass production of an aromatic carbonate. Further, a raw material containing an alcohol and an aromatic carbonate has been believed to be disadvantageous with respect to equilibrium, and therefore there is no disclosure about the contents of the alcohol and the aromatic carbonate, method or apparatus required for the use in an industrial application. Thus, disclosed are: a specific continuous multi-stage distillation column; and a specific process which enables to produce an aromatic carbonate from a dialkyl carbonate containing an alcohol and an aromatic carbonate and an aromatic monohydroxy compound stably for a long period in an industrial scale of 1 ton or more per hour with high selectivity and high yield. |
