A method and a system for adaptively reducing a quantization layer in an image processing application are provided to reduce a quantization layer of an image and reduce quantization artifacts. In a method for processing a quantized input image, the method comprises the following steps. It is detected whether a selected pixel within the quantized image belongs to a ramp area in each of plural predetermined directions. A quantization level is dynamically selected with respect to each of predetermined directions based on the corresponding detection results. A pixel is refined based on the selected quantization levels. In order to obtain a high precision value, low band pass filtering is applied to a smoothly-changing area(160). A gain value is obtained(162). Luminance values obtained from the low band pass filtering are mixed with original luminance values to use the gain value(164). |
