A device and a method for processing a digital multimedia relay signal are provided to use one cable without separately using two cables by using an A/V(Audio/Video) receiver supporting an HDMI(High Definition Multimedia Interface) and support multi-channel audio by controlling A/V output of a source device based on EDID(Extended Display ID Data) information of a display device. A memory unit(140) reads and stores EDID information of a display device. A control unit(150) corrects the stored EDID information according to a multimedia interface. An MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group) decoder(110) provides the corrected EDID information to a hot plug to enable the source device to copy the corrected EDID information. An HDMI transceiver(120) receives an A/V signal from the source device, transfers the video signal to the display device, and separates/transfers the audio signal to the MPEG decoder. The control unit connects a DVI(Digital Video Interface) display device and an HMDI source device based on the corrected EDID information. The control unit controls multi-channel audio output of the source device based on the corrected EDID information.
