AN OPTICAL RECORD/PLAYBACK APPARATUS AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF

An optical recording/reproducing apparatus and a control method thereof are provided to initialize an optical disk automatically and display the same main menu for all types of optical disks during a simple mode, so as to help a user to use the apparatus without confusion. A control method of an optical recording/reproducing apparatus comprises the steps of: checking the type of an optical disk when the optical disk is mounted(40,42); judging whether the optical disk is not previously initialized(44); judging whether the apparatus is set in a simple mode(46); finding an initialize mode and initializing the optical disk automatically(48); judging whether menu button operation of a remote controller is sensed(50); judging whether the apparatus is in the simple mode when the menu button is operated(52); displaying the same main menu regardless of the type of the optical disk if the apparatus is in the simple mode or displaying a main menu corresponding to the type of the optical disk(54,56); and standing-by until a user selects a specific menu(58).
