A method for switching a power saving mode in an image forming device by using an RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) card is provided to promptly switch the image forming device to the power saving mode when the RFID card of a user is escaped from an RFID detection range of the image forming device after the user performs an image forming job. An image forming device checks whether a user having an RFID card enters an RFID card detection range of the image forming device(100). The image forming device checks whether or not authority information of the user is permitted to use the image forming device when the user enters the RFID card detection range(102). The image forming device checks over whether or not an image forming job is requested from the user in a predetermined time when the image forming job is permitted to the user(104). The image forming device performs the requested image forming job when the image forming job is requested from the user(106). The image forming device checks whether the RFID card is detected when the image forming job is finished(110). The image forming device is switched to a power saving mode when the RFID card is not detected(112).
