A backlight device and a liquid crystal display apparatus are provided to suppress color spots on a light guide plate. A backlight device includes a plurality of packages(32) and a light guide plate. The light guide plate has an incident surface(28) and a radiation surface. Light irradiated from the packages is incident to the incident surface. The radiation surface irradiates the incident light to the outside. Each of the packages includes a housing for a package and a plurality of light sources(34,35,36). The housing includes a barrel shaping portion having a longitudinal wall, a lower wall portion installed in an end of the barrel shaping portion, and a passing portion. The plurality of light sources is disposed in the lower wall portion in the housing, and emits light.
