The invention relates to a communication system for components which can move and/or are fixed relative to one another, particularly functional units (FU1, FU2, FU3; FU4, FU5, FU6...) on the train and track. To integrate as many communication tasks as possible into a single system, provision is made for component-specific interfaces to be connected to a multiplex/demultiplex system which has unidirectional and/or bidirectional communication channels (COM1, COM2, COM3...), with means for physical and/or temporal selection of the communication channel (COM1, 15 COM2, COM3...) according to prescribed selection criteria being provided.
