A method for performing security error recovery in a wireless communications system includes a Packet Data Convergence Protocol layer of the wireless communications system performing a security protection procedure for a Non-Access Stratum message (302), and the Packet Data Convergence Protocol layer including a protocol error detection and recovery function, for detecting a security error due to a security parameter going out of synchronization and for recovering synchronization of the security parameter (304).
