METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MANAGING A COOPERATIVE DIVERSITY SYSTEM

A cooperative diversity method and apparatus are provided to use an existing sub-channel to exchange data between terminals that have entered a cooperative diversity mode, to thus maximize efficiency of radio resources. The first terminal(202) and the second terminal(203) of the second cluster(201) exchange data by using the first sub-channel(208) and the second sub-channel(209) for uplink of the first cluster(205). The uplink data exchanged through the first and second sub-channels in the second cluster is subjected to a space-time coding process. The coded data is transmitted to a base station(204) via the third sub-channel(210) and the fourth sub-channel(211) allocated to the first and second terminals of the second cluster. In this case, power of the first and second sub-channels used for the second cluster is sufficiently smaller than uplink power.
