APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR IMPROVING SPEECH INTELLIGIBILITY

An apparatus for improving intelligibility of a speech signal is provided to recognize a speech of the other party easily by enhancing intelligibility of a speech signal although the speech signal contains noise. An apparatus for improving intelligibility of a speech signal includes a measuring unit(204), a speech signal converter(203), and a speaker(205). The measuring unit analyzes a background noise signal of a receiver environment. The speech signal converter classifies the received speech signal into no-speech, unvoiced sound, voiced sound, and strengthens the received speech signal based on the classified result and the analyzed result for the background noise signal. The speaker outputs the strengthened speech signal.
