An image forming apparatus and a method for outputting color thereof are provided to printing an image data of pure black color by using not data of which color is mixed with cyan, magenta, yellow and black but data of only pure black color. A method for outputting color of an image forming apparatus comprises the steps of; judging whether an inputted image data is black(500); conversing the image data into cyan, magenta, yellow, and black data(510); comparing the information of the conversed cyan, magenta, yellow, and black data with the information of a pre-set half tone table(520); outputting a result value which is "1" when the cyan, magenta, yellow, and black data information is the same as the information of the half tone table or more(530); outputting the result value which is "0" when the cyan, magenta, yellow, and black data information is smaller than the information of the half tone table(540); extracting the black result value of the cyan, magenta, yellow, and black result values(550); converting the image data into the cyan, magenta, yellow, and black data when the image data is not black(560); comparing the converted cyan, magenta, yellow, and black information with the information of the pre-set half tone table(570); and outputting the result value which is "1" when the cyan, magenta, yellow, and black data information is the same the information of the half tone table or more(580); and outputting the result value which is "0" when the cyan, magenta, yellow, and black data information is smaller than the information of the half tone table(590).
