The invention relates to a method and an associated apparatus for determining a roll angle for occupant protection apparatuses. According to the invention, lateral acceleration (ay) and vertical acceleration (az) of a vehicle (1) are detected, and the roll angle (E) of the vehicle (1) is estimated on the basis of the detected lateral acceleration (ay) and the detected vertical acceleration (az), wherein further driving-dynamics variables which include a vehicle speed (v), a yaw angle (6) and an attitude angle (F) are determined, and wherein centripetal acceleration (I) for improving estimation of the roll angle (E) is calculated from these driving-dynamics variables. |
