953,787. Treating weft in looms. ALGEMENE KUNSTZIJDE UNIE N. V. Feb. 9, 1962 [Feb. 13, 1961], No. 5037/62. Heading D1E. Weft 8 is twisted prior to or during picking. In Figs. 1 and 2 the weft from a spool 5 is clamped at 7 and passed through a twisting tube 9 which, during heat-up and cutting of a previously laid weft, is rotated to twist the yarn. In Fig. 6 the tube is continuously rotated and the weft passes straight through a ball 24 during picking, the ball being partially rotated as shown during heat-up to grip the weft. For multi-weft feed more than one tube may be located on a turret. The Specification states that the thread may be picked by a jet of air which is caused to "whirl" or by a gripper shuttle which is caused to rotate as it is picked by providing grooves or projections on the outside of the shuttle and picking it through a tube with helical grooves or projections.
|
