An apparatus for preventing infants from watching a television and a method therefor are provided to protect the eyesight of infants by preventing the infants from watching the television. An apparatus for preventing infants from watching a television includes a sensor(130), a controller(120), and an image processor(117). The sensor is installed in a front surface of the television and senses a distance. The controller receives a distance signal from the sensor. When the sense distance is less than or equal to a reference distance, the controller controls a memory to display a stored still or moving image on a display unit. The image processor processes the still or moving image stored in the memory to output on the display unit according to a control signal of the controller.
