A voice output control device of an image display apparatus and a method thereof are provided to adjust an output direction of a voice signal using a directional speaker system. A voice output control method of an image display apparatus includes: receiving a broadcasting signal of a user's desired channel(S100); separating a voice signal and an image signal from the received broadcasting signal(S102); converting the separated voice signal into a ultrasonic wave signal(S104); outputting the converted ultrasonic wave signal through a first or second directional speaker(S106); judging whether or not an output direction control command is input(S108); displaying a menu screen to adjust an output direction of the voice signal(S110); and setting an output direction of the voice signal on the displayed menu screen(S112); and adjusting an output direction of the first or second directional speaker to the set voice output direction(S114).
