An audio player for controlling power consumption using a mute period, and a power consumption reducing method using a mute period in the device are provided to control battery power consumption by generating alarm sound during the mute period between the ending of music and the starting of new one. An audio player for controlling power consumption using a mute period comprises a mute period detection part(101), an alarm signal generating part(150), a sound output part(140), and a system control part(100). The alarm signal generating part outputs an alarm signal for generating alarm sound according to the detection of the mute period. The sound output part receives output of the alarm signal generating part. The system control part judges whether a user command is inputted and controls the operation of the audio player. A storage part(120) outputs the alarm signal data to the signal processing part. A timer(102) outputs a predetermined signal when the time duration from the alarm sound output exceeds the reference time.
