A method for using a navigation function in a portable terminal is provided to enable a user to select the optimum path by detecting associated intermediate points according to inputted intermediate point, obtaining paths to a desired destination passing through the detected intermediate points, and displaying the obtained paths. If a navigation menu is selected, a control part displays a navigation menu screen(S100,S110). If the user selects a destination input menu, the control part displays a destination input screen(S120). If the user inputs a destination through the destination input screen(S130), the control part obtains the first path to the inputted destination and displays it on a display part(S140). If the user selects an intermediate point input menu and inputs intermediate point information(S150,S160), the control part detects associated intermediate points according to the inputted information(S170). In this case, the control part obtains the second paths for the detected intermediate points and displays information about the second paths on the map together with the first path. If the user selects one of the intermediate points displayed on the map(S180), the control part displays the second path for the selected intermediate point on the map(S190).
