A backlight unit and an LCD device having the same are provided to prevent friction or interference caused by relative flow between a light guide plate and an optical sheet, thereby preventing an optical pattern formed in at least one side of the light guide plate from being damaged and preventing the deterioration of display quality. A backlight unit comprises a light source, a light guide plate, and an optical sheet. The light guide plate converts light emitted from the light source into a surface light source. The optical sheet is disposed on the light guide plate to cover at lest one side of the light guide plate. The optical sheet includes a first region(A1) and a second region(A2). The first region is formed in the upper part region of the light guide plate. The second region is bent downward in the edge of the first region. A light diffusion pattern for light diffusion or a prism pattern for light condensing is formed in the first region. |
