A method for controlling a fuel amount in a common rail engine system is provided to eliminate noise generated from a fuel pump by controlling the amount of fuel fed into the fuel pump in the common rail engine system, and to reduce manufacturing costs by utilizing a logic for increasing the fuel amount in the fuel pump, instead of adding a device to the common rail engine system or changing the shape thereof. A method for controlling a fuel amount in a common rail engine system includes first and second steps. At the first step(S401), it is determined whether the RPM of an engine is below a predetermined value or not. At the second step, if the RPM of the engine is below the predetermined value, the step proceeds to an actuator second mode(S403) for driving both a metering unit valve and a pressure control valve. Meanwhile, if the RPM of the engine exceeds the predetermined value, the step proceeds to an actuator first mode(S405) for driving either the metering unit valve or the pressure control valve. Before the first step, the method includes the step of comparing a temperature of the fuel fed into the fuel pump with a reference temperature, and the step of proceeding to the actuator second mode when the fuel temperature is higher than the reference temperature, and of proceeding to the first step unless the fuel temperature is higher than the reference temperature. |
