#CMT# #/CMT# The method involves measuring a spectrum of polychromatic incident radiation (4) and reflected radiation (5) subjected to total reflection in an attenuated total reflectance (ATR) crystal (3) e.g. IIa diamond, where refraction index of the diamond for infrared is in the order of 2.417-2.419. The reflection is attenuated by the absorption of the radiations in a sample (2) placed on a flat surface (7) of the crystal. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Method for analyzing a sample such as heavy hydrocarbon e.g. bitumen, for predicting physico-chemical characteristics e.g. penetrability, softening point, Fraass brittleness, asphaltene stability, conradson carbon, viscosity or rheological characteristics (all claimed), of the sample using a FTLA 2000(RTM: spectrometer) in a petrol refinery. Can also be used for analyzing distillation residue or heavy fuel oil. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The method permits prediction of the physico-chemical characteristics of the sample in a simple and reliable manner within a short time such as less than 10 minutes. The method permits obtention of unavailable information about behavior of the bitumen based on time. #CMT#DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS : #/CMT# The drawing shows a sectional view illustrating measurement of physico-chemical characteristics. 2 : Sample 3 : Attenuated total reflectance crystal 4 : Polychromatic incident radiation 5 : Reflected radiation 7 : Flat surface #CMT#INDUSTRIAL STANDARDS : #/CMT# The method conforms to NF EN 1426 standard. |
