<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization-selective liquid crystal hologram element which is highly efficient and is low cost. <P>SOLUTION: The hologram element of a polymer dispersion liquid crystal type has a periodic structure, consisting of region exhibiting optical anisotropy and region exhibiting optical isotropy, wherein a periodic phase separation structure between layer principally consisting of polymer and layer principally, consisting of non-polymerizable liquid crystal, is formed by holding a composition consisting of the nonpolymerizable liquid crystal, and polymerizable monomer or prepolymer and a photopolymerization initiator between a pair of transparent substrates and exposing the composition by using the multi-beam interference exposure of at least two beams. The liquid crystal hologram element is such that when ordinary refractive index of the non-polymerizable liquid crystal of the composition is "no" and the refractive index of the polymerizable monomer or prepolymer is "np", a periodic structure is formed by the composition satisfying the Relation (1) of ¾np-no¾>0.006, where a polarized component that is substantially vertical to the alignment direction of the periodic structure is diffracted. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
