PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide inexpensive iron powder for powder metallurgy capable of obtaining a green compact whose density satisfies≥6.5 Mg/m<SP>3</SP>. SOLUTION: Atomized iron powder obtained by making iron in a melted state into fine droplets, further, rapidly cooling and solidifying the droplets, and subjecting the resultant iron fine particles to finish reduction by 90 to 50 mass%, and reduced iron powder obtained by subjecting a solid iron oxide to rough reduction, and pulverizing the resultant spongy iron by 10 to 50 mass% are mixed.
