PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating capable of forming a coating film exhibiting good adhesion to other films and free from fear of peeling and the like, a coating film obtained using the same, its manufacturing method and a fluorescent lamp. SOLUTION: The coating comprises a substance for forming a protective film composed of an inorganic compound containing one or two or more elements selected from the group consisting of yttrium, aluminum, europium, hafnium, niobium, vanadium, silicon and zirconium, water and, as occasion demands, one or two or more selected from the group consisting of a lower alcohol, ketone and ether, where the lower alcohol comprises one or two or more selected from the group consisting of methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, 2-propanol, 1-butanol and 2-butanol; ketone comprises one or two or more selected from the group consisting of acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, diethyl ketone and methyl isobutyl ketone; and ether is diethyl ether or the like.
