A plasma display panel is provided to improve the contrast characteristic of an image displayed on the plasma display panel by relatively expanding an interval between a first black layer or a second black layer and a barrier rib arranged between a first electrode or a second electrode and a front substrate. A first electrode(102) and a second electrode(103) are arranged in parallel on a front substrate(101). A first black layer(106) is arranged between the front substrate and the first electrode. The first black layer has a color darker than that of the first electrode. A second black layer(107) is arranged between the front substrate and the second electrode. The second black layer has a color darker than that of the second electrode. A rear substrate(111) is arranged to be opposite to the front substrate. A barrier rib(112) divides discharge cells between the front substrate and the rear substrate. The barrier rib includes a first barrier rib which is in parallel with the first and second black layers, and a second barrier rib which is intersected with the first barrier rib. A third black layer is arranged on the front substrate of a position corresponding to the first barrier rib. A fourth barrier rib is arranged on the first substrate of a position corresponding to the second barrier rib. An interval between the first black layer and the second black layer is more than 0.7 times and less than 2.5 times of a shortest interval between the third black layer and at least one of the first black layer and the second black layer.
