A plasma display apparatus is provided to improve contour noises by implementing a sub-field mapping table in order to minimize variation at an optic enter in successive gray levels. In a plasma display apparatus which performs a time division scheme on a plasma display panel in order to display a unit frame. The plasma display apparatus includes a fresh memory(110) having a sub-field mapping table, which includes gray levels to be represented and on/off information of plural sub-fields corresponding to the gray levels. First on/off information and second on/off information corresponding to successive two gray levels of the sub-field mapping table are processed to have a difference that the number of sustain discharges performed by the plural sub-fields is more than two.
