A transmitting/receiving system and a data processing method are provided to perform slicer prediction, decoding process and symbol determination of supplementary data more exactly by using a pre-defined sequence, thereby improving the performance of the receiving system. A tuner receives first and second data. In the first data, first and second error correction encoding are performed. In the second data, the second error correction encoding is performed. A demodulator(47) demodulates the first data received in the tuner. An equalizer(49) compensates channel distortion included in the first data demodulated in the demodulator. A decoder(52) decodes the first data among the data where the channel distortion is compensated in the equalizer. A deinterleaver(53) deinterleaves the first data decodes in the decoder. An error correction unit(54) corrects an error generated in the first data deinterleaved in the deinterleaver. A derandomizer(55) derandomizes the first data where the error correction is performed in the error correction unit.
