PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and inexpensively provide a document conveying device capable of restraining an occurrence of a reading failure and a paper jam by preventing the edge part of the opening/closing side from rising. SOLUTION: The document conveying device 4 is supported at one end of an image reading part 2 in such a way that it can be opened or closed through a hinge part 5, and a pressing and holding member 6 is annexed to the underside of a document pressing and holding part 28. The pressing and holding member 6 is composed of a document mat 40 and compressible elastic members 41a-41c disposed between the document mat 40 and the document pressing and holding part 28. The elastic members 41a-41c are pasted and fixed to fixing parts 28a-28c on the underside of the document pressing and holding part 28. Of the elastic members 41a-41c, the elastic member 41a disposed closest to the hinge part 5 is the thickest, and the elastic members 41b and 41c become thinner in this order as they are distanced from the hinge part 5.
