PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a zoom lens in which the variations in curvature in an image face around a screen is less in the entire zoom area and a satisfactory optical performance is maintained over the entire screen. SOLUTION: The zoom lens includes, in the order starting from the object side to the image side, a first lens group with a negative refractive power and a second lens group with a positive refractive power; and for the zoom lens zooms, the first lens group and the second lens group that move independently, the first lens group has two or more negative lenses, two or more air lenses, and two or more aspherical faces. The second lens group has an aperture diaphragm and one or more aspherical faces that move integrally, when zooming takes place; and if the focal distances of the first and second lens groups are f1 and f2, respectively, a condition expressed by 1.20<¾f1/f2¾<2.00 is satisfied.
