PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably output an excellent image over a long period of time by prolonging the service life of a belt body, with a simple and inexpensive configuration, in an image forming apparatus which has a first image carrier, a first transfer member forming a first nip portion with the first image carrier, a second image carrier, a second transfer member forming a second nip portion with the second image carrier, and the belt body nipped in the first and second nip portions, and transfers a toner image to the belt body or a recording material carried by the belt body from the first and second image carriers, in such a manner that a voltage is applied to the first and second transfer members. SOLUTION: The position of the end of the portion coming into contact with the belt body of the first transfer member is different from the position of the end of the portion coming into contact with the belt body of the second transfer member, so that the area of the belt body to which electricity is discharged from the end of the portion coming into contact with the belt body of the first transfer member is not overlapped with the area of the belt body to which electricity is discharged from the end of the portion coming into contact with the belt body of the second transfer member, in a direction perpendicular to the moving direction of the belt body.
