PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease changes in output light of an optical module due to temperature, to extend the temperature range in which the optical module can be driven and to improve characteristics of the optical module. SOLUTION: The optical module is composed of a light emitting element 10, a diffraction grating 53 that is disposed on the optical path of the output light from the light emitting element 10, apart from the light emitting element 10, and that shows an increase in transmission efficiency with rise of the temperature, and an optical fiber 102 coupling the output light beams from the light emitting element 10 through the diffraction grating 10. By increasing the transmission efficiency of the diffraction grating 53 at a higher temperature, decrease in the output of the light emitting element 10 with the rise of temperature is offset by the rise of the transmission efficiency of the diffraction grating 53. Thereby, changes in the output light beams due to the temperature can be decreased, and the temperature range in which the optical module can be driven can be extended. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
