PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a stable functional group-containing high-molecular weight organopolysiloxane hardly causing gelation and forming cracks even when formed into a thick film. SOLUTION: The method for producing the high-molecular weight organopolysiloxane having≥3×10<SP>4</SP>weight-average molecular weight in terms of polystyrene comprises subjecting a silane compound having a hydrolyzable group to primary hydrolysis and condensation, affording an organopolysiloxane and further subjecting the resultant organopolysiloxane to secondary hydrolysis and condensation.
