PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for producing hydrogen, in which a large quantity of hydrogen can be generated and stored stably at a low cost for a long period of time. SOLUTION: At a reduction step, hydrogen 16 is introduced into a reaction tube 11 containing an iron material 13, the gross weight of the generated water is read by using a liquid mass flowmeter 25 and the reduction step is changed over to an oxidation step before the iron material is reduced excessively. At the oxidation step, water is injected into the reaction tube 11 containing the iron material 13, the gross flow rate of the generated hydrogen gas is read by using a gas mass flowmeter 28 and the oxidation step is changed over to the reduction step before water is injected excessively.
