PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet size detecting mechanism of simple mechanical structure, reduced in space for the mechanical structure with excellent durability and operability, and to provide an image forming device. SOLUTION: This sheet size detecting mechanism comprises a sheet size selecting member 1 for setting the sheet size information of a user based on the sheet size of sheets loaded on a feeding tray 2 detachably provided in the image forming device 1, a hole IC 6 provided without a contact with the sheet size selecting member 1 to detect the sheet size information set by the sheet size selecting member 1 and attachment condition of the feeding tray 2, and a CPU for determining sheet size of the sheets loaded on the feeding tray 2 based on the sheet size information detected by the hole IC 6 and attachment condition of the feeding tray 2.
