A device is disclosed for indicating the application of a magnetic field to an apparatus, the device comprising a magnetically conductive member arranged in a first position, the member being movable to a second position on application of a magnetic field with a magnitude above a predetermined threshold, and means for maintaining the member in the second position on removal of the magnetic field. The device is suited for use in a utility meter where attempts may be made to fraudulently effect the detection of the utility consumption by an external magnetic field.
